I work as a graphic designer, and as such it’s hard not to see the dozens of reasons this flyer is way cooler than any other I’ve seen in a long time. To give some of you who don’t know an idea, here are a few things to notice:

only about 7 color values are used, and they’re used very economically, save for the blue of the 2008, which I would have replaced with one of the more mid-tone values to further reduce number of colors

it’s pretty clearly live-traced, but the background mountainscape is so well stylized with the brushstrokes it doesn’t look hindered by the distortion inherent with quick vectorization

there’s a fantastic texture on the overall image that at once keeps the big colored spaces alive and gives the impression of powdery snow or rugged wear-and-tear

and finally i’ll point out that white is used fantastically as both an active positive space fill (like the snowboarders jacket) and engaging negative space that implies substance, like the paintings of Toyo Sesshu from 15th century Japan. The designer did nothing with the lower area of the flyer, but it registers as snow, substance.
